Andorra Updates Compulsory Education Decree for Secondary Certificate Candidates

Government aligns rules with new curriculum, limits exam attempts, ensures current knowledge, and opens retake registrations for professional baccalaureate.

Key Points

  • Two-year consecutive limit for independent candidates, covering three exam sessions.
  • Academic results must be no older than five years for validation.
  • Transitional rules protect current candidates with adjusted durations and boards.
  • Registration open July 2-9 for September 2026 POBPRO retake exams at Aixovall.

The Andorran government has approved updates to the decree regulating compulsory education, focusing on independent candidates for the secondary education graduate certificate. The changes align regulations with forthcoming revisions to the Andorran School's curriculum framework and subject programs, which will alter the official examination process.

The executive stated that the modifications aim to ensure an orderly transition to the new evaluation model while upholding legal safeguards for candidates currently in the process. Key updates include a two-year consecutive limit—covering three successive exam sessions from initial registration—for candidates to complete requirements and obtain the certificate.

The decree also restores a requirement, previously excluded due to an erratum, that academic results eligible for validation must date back no more than five years from the application date. This ensures candidates' knowledge remains current. Transitional provisions have been revised to protect ongoing candidates upon the decree's entry into force. A specific clause covers those starting the process in September this year, retaining prior conditions with minor adjustments to process duration, exam sessions, and examining board composition.

Separately, the government has announced registration for the extraordinary September 2026 session of the Official Professional Baccalaureate Exam (POBPRO). It is open to candidates from both renewed and non-renewed professional branches who failed the May session and meet other criteria. Applications run from 2 to 9 July via the government's online portal, with exams scheduled for 1 to 10 September at the Aixovall Vocational Training Centre. Timetables will vary by professional branch and exam type.
