Andorra Launches New International Prize for Catalan Studies Theses in 2026 Awards

The Andorran Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, in collaboration with the Fundació Ramon Llull and Fundació Congrés de Cultura Catalana, has unveiled guidelines for the 2026 Ramon Llull Literary Translation Awards. A key addition is the new International Ramon Llull Prize for Catalanistics, which honours the best final degree projects (TFG) and master's theses (TFM) on Catalan studies completed at universities outside the Catalan linguistic domain.

Each category carries a 1,000-euro prize to support emerging researchers and elevate catalanistics within academia. Submissions are accepted via the Institut Ramon Llull's online platform until 6 September, for theses defended and graded in 2025. Entrants must provide a summary in Catalan, regardless of the original language.

A six-person jury will select winners, comprising representatives from the Fundació Ramon Llull and Fundació Congrés de Cultura Catalana, their rotating presidents, the director of the Language and Universities Area at the Consorci Institut Ramon Llull, and a delegate from the Associació Internacional de Joves Investigadors en Llengua i Literatura Catalanes. Results will be revealed on 15 December at the annual ceremony in Andorra.

Changes also apply to the translation categories. Starting in 2027, the 4,000-euro prize for the top Catalan literature translation will move to the Nit de les Lletres Catalanes event, hosted by Òmnium Cultural and the Institut d'Estudis Catalans, to increase its prominence. The 6,000-euro lifetime achievement award will continue unchanged, with its mid-December presentation in Andorra.
