Andorra Launches New International Prize for Catalan Studies Theses in 2026 Awards

The Andorran Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, alongside the Fundació Ramon Llull and Fundació Congrés de Cultura Catalana, has introduced guidelines for the 2026 Ramon Llull Literary Translation Awards, including a new International Ramon Llull Prize for Catalanistics to recognise outstanding undergraduate and master's theses from universities outside the Catalan linguistic domain.

The new prize features two categories: the best final degree project (TFG) and the best master's thesis (TFM), both centred on Catalan studies. Each winner receives 1,000 euros, with the aim of nurturing research careers in catalanistics and enhancing the field's standing in university departments.

Eligible students may submit applications through the Institut Ramon Llull's online portal by 6 September. Theses must have been defended and assessed in 2025, in any language, with a Catalan-language summary required. The six-member jury includes representatives from the Fundació Ramon Llull and Fundació Congrés de Cultura Catalana, their alternating presidents, the director of the Language and Universities Area at the Consorci Institut Ramon Llull, and a nominee from the Associació Internacional de Joves Investigadors en Llengua i Literatura Catalanes. The decision will be announced on 15 December during the annual awards ceremony in Andorra.

Other updates affect the translation prizes. From 2027, the 4,000-euro award for the best Catalan literature translation will be presented at the Nit de les Lletres Catalanes event, organised by Òmnium Cultural and the Institut d'Estudis Catalans, to boost its visibility within the Catalan literary system. The 6,000-euro lifetime achievement award will retain its existing format, timing and Andorran venue in mid-December.
