Andorra Sees 4.5% Drop in July Visitors but Overnight Stays Rise 5.4%

Andorra welcomed 883,406 visitors in July, marking a 4.5% decrease from 924,738 the previous year, Statistics Department data shows. The decline occurred despite a rise in tourists—those staying at least one night—to 403,322, up 5.4% and accounting for 45.7% of arrivals.

Day visitors fell 11.5% to 480,084, comprising 54.3% of the total. Spanish arrivals dropped 3.3% to 392,280, with day trips down 15.3% but overnight stays up 3.5%. French visitors decreased 7.8% to 85,361, reflecting an 11.7% drop in day visits offset by an 8.8% overnight increase. Arrivals from other countries rose 4.3% to 49,590, bolstered by a 10.8% gain in overnight guests.

Overnight stays averaged 2.9 nights, compared to 2.6 a year earlier: 2.9 for Spaniards, 2.7 for French, and 3.0 for others. Hotels captured 73.8% of nights at 854,821, up from 67%, while tourist apartments took 11.8% at 137,216. Andorra la Vella topped parishes with 297,533 nights, followed by La Massana (256,987), Canillo (199,231), and Escaldes-Engordany (198,550).

Shopping drew 49.6% of visitors, followed by nature activities at 17.1%. Overnight guests favored nature (31.4%), wellness and thermal pursuits (16.4%), and shopping (13.5%), while day-trippers emphasized shopping (84.6%) or transit (5.6%).

Vehicle entries totaled 375,016, down 1.8% from 382,000 the prior July, mainly due to reduced French traffic. Spanish-border crossings rose 0.6% to 253,804, while French-border entries fell 6.6% to 121,212. January-to-July entries declined 5.4% to 2,233,524, with Spanish traffic up 0.4% and French down 18.9%. Over 12 months, entries hit an estimated 4,052,858. Exits in July stood at 360,360, down 5.4%, with Spanish outflows up 0.9% and French down 17.3%; year-to-date exits dropped 8.1%.

Year-to-date overnight stays rose 1.0%. Over 12 months, visitors totaled 8.95 million, down 2.1%, with tourists up 5.1% against an 8% day-tripper decline.

Officials credit the overnight gains to investments in sites like Pont Tibetà and Mirador del Roc del Quer, trails, lakes, cycling, adventure sports, Caldea, cuisine, festivals, and events, lessening dependence on day visitors.
