Police in Andorra arrested seven people over the weekend for offences including assault, evading border controls, trespassing and drink-driving.
Officers detained a 62-year-old non-resident man on Friday night in Arinsal during the festa major festivities. He faces charges of offences against physical and moral integrity after allegedly punching another stallholder in the face. The victim sustained injuries requiring medical attention. Both men were stallholders, and the altercation arose from a dispute over electricity access for their setups.
On the same day, authorities arrested a 30-year-old man under an existing detention order for an offence against public authority. The incident dated back to 30 June, when he entered the country on a motorcycle at the Riu Runer border crossing. He evaded a police check by ignoring officers' instructions to stop and disregarding road signs.
In the early hours of Saturday in Sant Julià de Lòria, police took a 29-year-old man into custody on suspicion of offences against privacy and the inviolability of homes. He had entered company offices without permission. After realising he had left his wallet behind, he contacted the firm's on-duty line. The responsible person notified police. The suspect said he had entered by mistake while searching for his partner's apartment.
Four arrests for drink-driving occurred in recent days. Around 5:45am on Saturday, a 27-year-old man was stopped in Andorra la Vella's Avinguda Príncep Benlloch following a minor crash. While driving uphill, he lost control and struck a parked vehicle, three safety bollards and a traffic sign. His breathalyser showed 1.39g/l.
At the scene, officers stopped a 73-year-old man for erratic driving; his reading was 1.52g/l.
On Sunday morning in Pas de la Casa, police arrested a 37-year-old tourist driving the wrong way, with a reading of 1.64g/l.
Early Monday in Andorra la Vella, a 23-year-old driver was detained with 0.90g/l in his blood.
