Andorran Police Detain Two Men for Drug Trafficking at Runer River Border

Andorran police have detained two 51-year-old men at the Runer river border crossing in recent days, suspecting them of drug trafficking offenses against public health. Investigators believe the quantities seized indicate distribution intent in both instances.

Officers stopped the first suspect, a local resident, on Friday night as he entered Andorra on a motorcycle. They found five packets of cocaine, weighing about 25 grams total, hidden inside his helmet. He also faced charges for driving under the influence of drugs, endangering public safety. A subsequent search of his home uncovered no additional substances. Due to his addiction history, a judge released him provisionally pending charges of possession, importation, and trafficking.

The second arrest took place Saturday night and involved another 51-year-old man driving a private vehicle with his two minor children. Police discovered 229 grams of marijuana, nine marijuana cigarettes, and 203 grams of hashish in the trunk. He tested positive for narcotics. A home search revealed a further 87 grams of marijuana, two grams of hashish, three precision scales, and 12 large plastic bags containing marijuana residue. He remains in custody while authorities examine his mobile phone and other items for links to distribution networks or buyers. No court date is scheduled.

The cases align with heightened border checks over the weekend, which also addressed thefts, illegal weapons, and an expulsion violation at other points, though police have shared no further details on the drug probes. Analysis of phone records may influence the final charges.
