Ex-Andorran Goalkeeper Held for Drug Trafficking with 200g Hashish

A 43-year-old former Andorran international goalkeeper, who played for the national team as well as clubs in Spain's Segunda B and Catalonia, entered La Comella prison on Thursday after police seized 200 grams of vacuum-sealed hashish and 11 grams of cocaine from his vehicle.

Officers from the crimes against public health unit within the judicial and criminal police arrested the Andorran national, who resides abroad, on Wednesday morning in Sant Julià de Lòria. They had tracked his movements and intercepted him upon detecting his return to the Principality, where authorities suspected he carried drugs intended for local distribution.

The man travelled to Andorra roughly twice a month to sell the substances before leaving again, according to police. A search of his car uncovered the drugs, concealed in a bag in the boot. He faced a duty magistrate that afternoon, who ordered his imprisonment pending further investigation into the public health offence of drug trafficking, citing risks of flight or evidence tampering.

The probe, described by police as thorough, continues to examine possible distribution networks. The suspect retired from football in 2021 following stints with Andorran league sides and teams beyond the Principality.

Football community members voiced shock at the news, noting his past association with cannabis during his youth but no previous suspicions of dealing. His identity remains undisclosed.
