Ex-Andorran Goalkeeper Held for Drug Trafficking with 200g Hashish

A 43-year-old former Andorran international footballer, previously a goalkeeper for the national team with experience in Spain's Segunda B and Catalan clubs, remains in custody at La Comella prison following his arrest on drug trafficking charges.

Police from the crimes against public health unit detained the man, who lives abroad, on Wednesday morning in Sant Julià de Lòria. Officers intercepted him upon his return to Andorra, suspecting he carried controlled substances for local distribution. A vehicle search revealed around 200 grams of hashish and 11 grams of cocaine, vacuum-sealed and concealed in a bag in the boot.

The operation stemmed from an investigation by the judicial and criminal police area. Authorities suspect the suspect entered Andorra roughly twice monthly to sell the drugs before departing again. He retired from football in 2021 after playing for Andorran league teams and clubs outside the Principality.

The man faced a duty magistrate that afternoon. After reviewing the police file, the judge ordered his remand to prevent flight risk or interference with the probe. The investigation, described as robust, continues to explore potential local networks or accomplices.

People in Andorran football circles expressed surprise, recalling his past youthful links to cannabis use but no prior dealing allegations. No further details on his identity have emerged.
