Six Andorrans Safe in Indonesia After Deadly 7.7 Quake on Flores

Six Andorran citizens on Indonesia's Flores island during a 7.7-magnitude earthquake that killed at least 47 people are safe, the government has confirmed.

All six were listed in the Principat's Traveller Registry, which allowed authorities to confirm their wellbeing quickly after the quake. The tremor struck early Saturday off the island's coast in the archipelago's east, affecting several districts and sparking landslides, aftershocks, and evacuations of about 2,000 people from coastal areas over tsunami fears that did not materialise.

Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) gave a preliminary death toll of 47, with 24 in Manggarai district, 17 in East Manggarai, three in Sikka, and one each in Ngada, Ende, and West Manggarai. Rescue operations face challenges from blocked roads and debris, and officials have not released figures for injuries or those still missing.

A 6.9-magnitude aftershock struck Sumatra roughly 12 hours later, with Germany's GFZ research centre reporting no immediate casualties or damage.

In Spain, a separate 5.0-magnitude quake rattled Granada and nearby areas that morning. Andorran authorities report no nationals affected there, and no major injuries or damage occurred.
