Police in Andorra la Vella have released a 40-year-old man arrested on Saturday evening for allegedly assaulting a 12-year-old boy following a dispute between the minor and the suspect's stepson in Prat del Roure park.

The detention occurred shortly after 7pm, when the man reportedly located the boy, shook him while reprimanding him over the earlier argument with his stepson, and prompted a police response. Officers took the resident into custody, and he spent the night in cells at the central station. Prosecutors ordered his release the next day after a hospital examination of the boy revealed no detectable injuries, determining the incident was minimal.

Judicial authorities will summon the man as required, likely to address a minor penal contravention that could result in a financial penalty.

The case had initially drawn attention amid a series of eight parish police arrests over the past week for violence and public safety offenses. That tally included a separate Monday midday incident in which officers detained a 42-year-old man at his home after hospital staff triggered a purple code for suspected gender-based violence against his partner. He faces charges related to offenses against physical and moral integrity.

The other six arrests involved male drivers aged 28 to 54 with blood alcohol levels above 0.87 grams per litre. One also carried a 7.7cm knife in his waist bag, resulting in an additional weapons possession charge.
