Andorra to Roll Out Phone Lockers in All Secondary Schools After Successful Pilot

The Andorran Ministry of Education and Universities intends to roll out a mobile phone custody system across all three secondary schools this academic year, following a successful pilot at Encamp that won backing from the educational community.
State Secretary for Education Josep Anton Bardina described the trial at Escoles Andorranes de Segona Ensenyança d'Encamp—launched last academic year—as having "gone very well," with approval from stakeholders. Students placed their devices in secure lockers each morning and collected them at the end of the day, aiming to boost interactions and uphold the existing ban on phones during lessons.
Ministry officials are now assessing secure storage solutions after testing multiple options. Lockers at Encamp worked reliably, unlike sealable pouches trialled elsewhere, which fell short of standards.
Current school policies already prohibit mobiles on site, sparing pre-primary and primary levels. Secondary schools, however, face ongoing compliance challenges that demand a dependable approach. Bardina highlighted the priority of selecting a robust method for these institutions.
Once finalised, the ministry will issue a procurement tender, set deposit and retrieval protocols, and deploy the system at the three centres this term to ensure immediate effectiveness.
