The Andorran Tribunal de Corts acquitted one of two young men accused in a 2019 Encamp Carnival brawl, while sentencing the other to a 10-month suspended prison term for intentional injuries.
The ruling came yesterday in the case stemming from a chaotic group fight during the early hours of a March morning amid carnival festivities. The victim had challenged a group of youths over their conduct toward a girl, leading to an attack involving punches and kicks. He suffered a broken nasal bone and various contusions.
Judges dismissed the serious intentional injuries charge against both defendants due to inadequate evidence linking them directly to the assault. During the June trial, the victim requested to drop the complaint, explaining he could no longer identify the attackers clearly in the midst of the melee. He expressed a desire to put the long-running matter behind him.
For the defendant found guilty of lesser intentional injuries, the court cited his age—under 21 at the time—as a mitigating factor. In addition to the suspended sentence, he must pay court costs and a €2,476 fine to cover CASS medical expenses.
