Police ID Dog and Walker After Face-Biting Attack on 8-Year-Old Boy in Sispony

Police in Sispony have identified both the dog that bit an eight-year-old boy in the face and the person walking it during Friday's attack, which left the child with serious facial injuries.

The incident took place around 2:30pm in Sispony, with Servei d'Urgències Mèdiques (SUM) teams alerted shortly before 4pm and police arriving around 4pm or 4:20pm. SUM medics treated the boy on site before transferring him to Hospital Nostra Senyora de Meritxell, followed by a move to Hospital de la Seu d'Urgell for specialized care. He remains hospitalized there, and surgery remains possible depending on his injuries' evolution. Medical sources note that dog bites differ significantly, with treatment varying by case.

The off-leash, unidentified dog belongs to an Andorran resident currently abroad, who had left it in the temporary care of an ex-partner or acquaintance for three or four days. Officers traced the owner Saturday morning through inquiries with local dog owners. They also located two dogs matching the description, confirming the attacker and the caregiver walking it at the time. Police have informed the caregiver of required procedures.

The investigation stays open, awaiting assessment by the animal protection authority on whether the dog qualifies as a potentially dangerous breed, leash or muzzle obligations, and administrative sanctions for the owner—expected to include a fine for the leash violation. The process also hinges on whether the boy's family files a complaint; they have not done so yet, prioritizing his care, though the window remains open.
