Andorra and France have signed an administrative agreement to overhaul the Lycée Comte de Foix, with major investments targeting the gym, dining facilities, and general education building over the next eight years.
The project, spanning 2026 to 2033, carries a total cost of €18.5 million. The Andorran government will cover 70% (€13.509 million, or €1.688 million annually), while France funds the remaining 30% (€5.031 million, or €628,884 per year). The deal was sealed recently by Andorra's Education Minister Ladislau Baró and his French counterpart Édouard Geffray.
The gym will receive the largest allocation at €4.2 million, including €1.9 million for renovations and €2.3 million for expansion. Other significant Andorran-funded works include €2.8 million to update the school dining building, €1.7 million for the teaching kitchen, and €1.637 million for the administrative building.
France will handle renovations to the logistics building (€184,660), vocational education facilities (€1.534 million), the collège (€825,342), and the general education building (€2.486 million).
Additional upgrades cover the pool (€334,600), the 'extension' building (€399,026), boarding facilities (€661,010), art studios (€650,748), outdoor areas (€728,000), and miscellaneous actions (€399,000).
The agreement stems from a 2023 assessment by the Montpellier Rectorate, stressing the need for joint investment to maintain high-quality French-system education in Andorra. A mixed Andorran-French oversight committee will monitor progress, led by the Occitanie academic region's property services. Budgeting begins in 2026 with Andorra's initial €1.688 million allocation.
