Key Points

  • Andorran officials Josep Anton Bardina and Xavier Campuzano represent at EQAR General Assembly.
  • Membership boosts transparency, credibility, and international recognition of Andorran qualifications.
  • Follows AQUA's 2025 EQAR admission (to 2030) and full ENQA membership (to 2030).
  • Supports competitive university model integrated into European Higher Education Area.

The Andorran government has joined the European Register of Quality Assurance Agencies (EQAR), with membership becoming effective today at midday through its inaugural participation in the organisation's General Assembly. Representing the executive were State Secretary for Education and Universities Josep Anton Bardina and Director of Higher Education, Research and Technological Innovation Xavier Campuzano.

This step forms part of a broader strategy to enhance Andorra's university system, establishing a demanding, competitive model fully aligned with Europe. It allows the principality to contribute directly to the governance of the European quality assurance system and supports integration into the European Higher Education Area.

In a remote address to the assembly, Bardina noted that for a compact university system like Andorra's, quality represents "not just a technical goal, but an essential requirement to secure outward reach, institutional confidence and complete integration into the European Higher Education Area."

Officials view the EQAR membership as a pledge to a transparent university sector that aligns with European standards, boosts the credibility of state qualifications and promotes international recognition for Andorran higher education institutions.

The government's entry follows a significant year for the country's quality assurance framework. In 2025, the Andorran Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (AQUA) was admitted to EQAR, with registration valid until February 2030, incorporating Andorra's external evaluation outcomes into Europe's transparency and trust infrastructure. That year, AQUA also achieved full membership in the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA), effective until September 2030.

These milestones deepen Andorra's embedding within European higher education quality mechanisms.
