Key Points

  • Andorra police issue €600 fines for overnight camping in motorhomes and vans outside designated areas.
  • Fines reduce to €300 for prompt payment; non-payment leads to vehicle immobilization.
  • Enforcement by Traffic Safety, Public Safety, and Borders units under 2025 tourism law.
  • Authorized overnight spots include campsites like Santa Creu and Valira; daytime parking allowed in specified areas.

Andorra police began issuing €600 fines on Wednesday to drivers of motorhomes, campervans, caravans, and adapted vehicles like vans found overnighting or camping outside designated areas.

The enforcement, agreed with the Ministry of Tourism and Trade, comes after an adaptation period to raise awareness of the 2025 regulatory updates now in effect. Officers from Traffic Safety, other Public Safety units including traffic specialists, and the Borders and Immigration area are carrying out checks. Police have distributed internal guidelines to guide the process.

Under the General Law on Tourist Accommodation, overnight stays and camping are prohibited except at authorised campsites, camping zones, and motorhome rest areas, which are available across the parishes. Daytime parking is allowed at sites including Terres Primeres, els Cortals d’Encamp, Feixes del Funicamp, Canrodes, Prat del Roure, and Camí de la Font de la Roda. Overnight options include campsites such as Santa Creu, Casal, Janramon, Xixerella, and Valira.

The standard fine is €600, reduced to €300 for immediate payment to encourage compliance. Failure to pay results in vehicle immobilisation. Authorities plan to boost signage and information at previously popular unauthorised spots to direct users to permitted facilities.
