Police in Andorra detained a local couple early this morning in El Tarter after a routine breathalyser stop escalated into resistance and assault.
The 32-year-old male resident was first pulled over in the early hours for a standard alcohol test, which returned a positive result below the criminal threshold. Shortly after, he got back behind the wheel of his parked vehicle. Officers stopped him again, but he refused the test, repeatedly ignored their orders, and resisted arrest. He faces charges of offences against public safety and public authority.
His 32-year-old female companion intervened during the incident, assaulting the officers, and was also arrested on suspicion of an offence against public authority.
This week, police have made several other arrests. At the Riu Runer border crossing, two tourists were detained for drug possession offences against public health: a 23-year-old on Monday afternoon with 2.44 grams of cocaine, and a 46-year-old early Tuesday morning with 0.08 grams of the same substance.
In La Massana, a 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of offences against physical and moral integrity after assaulting his partner at their home.
Four additional drivers, aged 20 to 35, have been detained in recent days for driving under the influence, with blood alcohol levels ranging from 1.22 to 2.05 grams per litre.
