Andorra Police Probe Serial Arsonist in Vehicle Fire Spree

Police in Andorra la Vella are investigating whether the same individual is behind a spate of vehicle fires in the Lauredià parishes of Aixirivall and Aixovall.

Three cars were completely destroyed by fire in Aixirivall last Sunday, marking the second such incident in the village's old quarter in recent weeks. Officers suspect arson in both cases and are working to identify the perpetrator or perpetrators.

On Thursday morning, a man was caught by a local resident in Aixovall as he placed incendiary materials—described as barbecue firelighters inside shoes—under another vehicle. The neighbour alerted police, who recovered the items. No fire started in that instance.

Authorities have stepped up patrols around the clock in both areas, with marked vehicles making regular rounds. Investigators are following limited leads with discretion to avoid tipping off suspects. One promising line on Friday did not pan out, sources say, but police remain confident they will identify those responsible soon.

Residents in Aixirivall report heightened anxiety, with many struggling to sleep amid fears of further attacks. The blazes occurred in the urban core, raising concerns that flames could spread to nearby buildings. Even those with indoor parking feel uneasy.

In response, numerous locals are urgently seeking covered parking spots, contacting estate agents and relying on word-of-mouth. This is challenging in the area, where street parking is common, especially for work vans. The local council has pressed police to resolve the matter quickly.

While some speculate about revenge motives, police have not confirmed any links and caution it could involve one person, multiple individuals, or someone with a psychological issue. The case is their top priority.
