Andorra woke up on Wednesday to its coldest morning in at least five years, with temperatures dropping below zero across the Principat. Data from VisualMeteo stations showed widespread lows not seen since 11 January 2021, when a cold spell lasted at least five days in urban areas.

The sharpest drops included -11.3°C at Plans de Canillo, -9.9°C at La Cortinada, -9.4°C at Rubió, -9.8°C at Llorts station, and -7.8°C at Certés. Conditions were harsher at higher elevations, with -17.2°C recorded at Fonts d'Arinsal and -7.4°C in Encamp. In urban centres, Escaldes-Engordany hit -5.2°C at its core and -6.7°C at Escaldes Sa Calma. Temperatures remained negative nationwide into the morning despite emerging sunshine.

The Andorra Meteorological Service issued a yellow alert for low temperatures until noon, noting that solar activity and easing cold winds would allow a slight recovery. Unlike neighbouring areas seeing snow at lower altitudes, Andorra has experienced dry cold so far. However, a front moving in during the afternoon or evening is forecast to bring light precipitation, mainly to the northern extremes, with snow levels starting around 1,000 metres and rising to 1,700 metres overnight, accompanied by gustier winds.

VisualMeteo highlighted that while urban lows match 2021 levels, high-mountain sites may have seen comparable chills more recently. The service predicts today's minima at 1°C in Andorra la Vella, -2°C at 1,500 metres, and -12°C at Pas de la Casa, with potential northern showers after midnight.
