Key Points

  • Pavement damaged by continuous trucks; not designed for heavy traffic.

  • Construction at Node building adds truck pressure, blocks private access.
  • Demand repairs, urban furniture, parking controls, and official explanation.

Residents of Prat Primer street in Andorra la Vella have lodged a formal complaint over the ongoing degradation of their road, which they say has transformed from a pedestrian area into a 24-hour loading and unloading zone without any prior notice or justification.

According to the affected neighbours, the change has led to severe pavement damage, as the surface was not designed to handle continuous heavy vehicle traffic. They note that while lighting issues—ongoing for weeks or even months—were recently addressed on a "provisional" basis, broader problems persist. The street lacks trees, benches, and urban furniture, and there are no litter bins not only on Prat Primer but also on nearby roads such as Maria Pla and Borda streets.

Compounding the issues, the area has become a de facto parking spot for customers of local restaurants, who leave vehicles for hours despite alternative parking options nearby. Some businesses also regularly park there. "This situation often blocks access to our private parking via the right-of-way, due to the buildup of cars, trucks, and vans occupying the space," the residents stated.

They further highlighted intensified pressure from construction at the nearby Node building for Andorra Telecom, which brings constant heavy trucks and cranes. While acknowledging that the works may account for some wear, the group insists they do not excuse the lack of repairs or proper space management. "The maintenance and improvement of public spaces is the commune's responsibility," they argued.

The residents are demanding a formal explanation for the road's changed use, including its technical or administrative basis; confirmation of whether the current setup is temporary or permanent; a specific timeline for pavement repairs; restoration of urban furniture; installation of litter bins across the area; and effective controls to prevent misuse as parking while ensuring access to existing rights-of-way. Authorities have not yet responded to the complaint.
