Andorran firefighters conducted 338 rescues and salvations in 2025, down 80 from 418 the previous year, according to the annual report from the Department of Prevention, Firefighting and Rescue (DPEIS).
These operations formed part of 4,639 total operational interventions across the Principality, a drop of 560 or 11% from 5,199 in 2024. The department handled 15,994 expedients overall, with 11,355 involving call management and referrals to services like police or medical emergencies.
Medical and person-assistance operations led at 2,209 (48% of total), followed by 1,242 accidents (27%), 449 technical assists (10%), 229 fires or explosions (5%), 338 rescues and salvations (7%), alongside smaller categories such as 47 natural risk responses, 61 security-related calls, 49 other services, three planned events and 12 call handlings.
Rescues and salvations occurred in every parish, with Andorra la Vella recording 90, Encamp 83, Escaldes-Engordany nearly 60, Canillo 38, La Massana 30, Sant Julià de Lòria 17 and Ordino 16. Mountain rescues numbered 145, slightly fewer than 152 in 2024, including 79 accidents, 51 salvations, three avalanches and 12 other tasks like technical aid or prevention.
Overall interventions varied by parish: Andorra la Vella (1,377), Encamp (887), Sant Julià de Lòria (610), La Massana (591), Canillo (462), Escaldes-Engordany (435) and Ordino (251). Fire stations in Santa Coloma, Pas de la Casa, La Massana and Canillo supported rapid responses, with the central park leading at 720 deployments.
The Operational Control Centre managed 35,525 calls, up 7.8% from 2024, primarily via 112 (14,520), 118 (6,792) and internal line 890 922 (14,213). Operations outside Andorra totalled 26, with 14 in Spain and 12 in France.
Staffing stood at 138 by year-end, including 121 firefighters (122 men, 16 women), 12 control operators and five administrators. This reflected a modest expansion with three new positions—the first since 2014—yielding about 1.3 firefighters per 1,000 inhabitants for a population of roughly 89,000. The average age among firefighters was 48.
Data adjustments stemmed from SYSTAM management software launched in July 2024, which reclassified categories like technical assists and eliminated prior training/practice groupings, potentially affecting comparisons. The fleet included 50 vehicles, among them 17 trucks (one new in 2025), with plans for major renewals ahead.
