A young Andorran influencer has shared a striking anecdote on TikTok highlighting the scarcity of locals in his workplace. In a video posted on his @loanpf account, he recounts being asked, "Oh, are you really Andorran?" by a female colleague who has lived in Andorra for two and a half years.
The encounter happened after they were introduced, the influencer explains. Surprised to learn of his Andorran origins, she reacted with disbelief. He attributes this to the workplace environment, where Spanish is the dominant language because most colleagues are foreigners.
"Looking around, I can't find any Andorrans," he notes, adding that this is why he doesn't speak Catalan there. The predominance of non-locals, combined with the informal Spanish varieties spoken—"not exactly Castilian, but Colombian, Argentine..."—further underscores the dynamic.
He hints at underlying reasons for the absence of Andorrans, suggesting that "we all know why most of them leave," and points out that only two of his friends remain, those who own property. Far from complaining, the influencer ends on a positive note, emphasising "how lucky we are to have these colleagues."
The video sheds light on Andorra's evolving workforce, where expatriates from Spain and Latin America fill many roles amid a trend of young locals departing.
