Joan Verdú, Cande Moreno, and Irineu Esteve will serve as flag-bearers for Andorra at the opening ceremony of the Milan-Cortina d'Ampezzo Winter Olympics on Friday.
For the first time, the event will feature a decentralised athletes' parade across multiple Olympic venues, rather than a single procession. The three Andorran athletes will each lead the delegation from one of the host locations: Verdú from Bormio, Moreno from Cortina d'Ampezzo, and Esteve from Predazzo.
Originally, cross-country skier Gina del Rio had been slated to carry the flag in Predazzo. However, she was replaced because her competition is scheduled for the following day.
The Milan-Cortina Games mark the third time Italy has hosted the Winter Olympics, after Cortina in 1956 and Turin in 2006. Andorra's team will compete in alpine skiing, snowboarding, and cross-country skiing events.
