Firefighters Close Busy Pas de la Casa Road Due to Snow and Rockfall Risk

Firefighters closed Carrer de les Pistes in Pas de la Casa on Tuesday afternoon due to the risk of snow, earth, and rocks falling from an undeveloped embankment above the road.

The street, a busy route linking Carrer de la Solana i Bearn with Avinguda del Consell General, has been shut since around 4pm on 17 February. Recent snowfall accumulated on the slope, with one assessment estimating about 100 cubic metres of material at risk of sliding onto the roadway. Local residents alerted emergency services, prompting firefighters to inspect the site. They conducted an initial snow clearance but could not remove all the buildup amid poor weather conditions.

A specialized firm confirmed the hazard and advised delaying major work until conditions improved. Firefighters planned to return Wednesday morning around 11am to finish clearing the snow and rocks, weather permitting. However, one report indicated the snowplow machine might not arrive until Thursday.

The closure affects access to a nearby hotel, which has restricted entry to its Carrer de Sant Jordi door only, leaving the Les Pistes exit unavailable for now. No injuries have occurred, and authorities have not released further details on the exact risk level or material volume.
