A Colombian resident in Pas de la Casa has received a six-month suspended prison sentence after threatening a waiter with death using a broken bottle and a knife during a late-night dispute at a nightclub.
The incident unfolded around 3am when the man, unhappy about settling his bill as the venue prepared to close, argued with the waiter. He smashed a glass bottle inside the club and brandished the jagged edge, warning the employee: "In Colombia, people like you we either shoot or stab."
The man then left for his nearby home, retrieved an 18.5cm knife, and returned to the nightclub. There, he again showed the blade to the waiter and threatened: "Come here, I'm going to take your life."
Police later detained him following a complaint from the waiter. In a fast-track penal hearing in Encamp, the defendant admitted full responsibility for the serious offence of unconditional death threats involving a weapon.
Judges imposed a six-month conditional sentence, suspended for two years. Should he commit another offence within that period, he would serve the full term in prison.
