Driver arrested after attempting to run over police outside Encamp school

Police in Encamp arrested a 53-year-old driver Thursday afternoon on suspicion of offences against human life and integrity, public authority, honour, and collective security.

The incident took place during a routine preventive patrol outside a local school, where officers from the traffic service were directing vehicles on a street typically closed to facilitate the safe exit of students and staff. The man disregarded their instructions and drove against the flow of traffic. When agents told him he could not proceed, he became visibly agitated and began insulting them.

Officers ordered him to move his vehicle, which was blocking the road, but he allegedly attempted to run over one of the agents twice, striking the officer with his side mirror despite repeated warnings to stop. The man's underage son, seated in the back, assaulted the police during the intervention, causing injuries.

Agents then approached the vehicle to inform the driver of his arrest. He resisted, continuing to hurl insults, forcing officers to remove him forcibly. At the police station, he tested positive for drugs.

Police have not released further information on the severity of the officers' injuries or the status of the son. The investigation is ongoing.
