A man living in Andorra attempted to steal from the reception desk of a hotel on Avinguda Meritxell in Andorra la Vella in the early hours of the morning, but left empty-handed after failing to notice €1,000 in cash.
The incident occurred at 4:13 a.m., when the suspect entered the unmanned reception area. He waited briefly before rummaging through the drawers. Using keys he found, he opened additional drawers, one of which contained the cash, according to the receptionist's later statement.
Intoxicated by alcohol and drugs, the man overlooked the money entirely. As the receptionist returned, he fled the scene without taking anything—and reportedly waved goodbye.
Security camera footage enabled police to identify the resident. When questioned, he claimed no memory of the event or his attempt to steal from the desk, attributing it to his heavy consumption of alcohol and narcotics.
He was convicted of attempted theft and sentenced to three and a half months in suspended prison time.
