Drunk Man in Andorra Arrested for Insulting and Assaulting Police Officers

Police in Andorra detained a heavily intoxicated man early Saturday morning after he insulted officers who had approached him twice to offer assistance.

The incident began when a driver alerted authorities to a man lying on the ground near the government administrative building in Prat de la Creu. A patrol responded and found him struggling to stand due to his level of intoxication. He insisted he was fine and attempted to walk away.

Shortly afterward, during their rounds, the officers spotted what appeared to be the same man staggering erratically near Baixada del Molí in Andorra la Vella. They stopped again to check on his wellbeing. This time, he reacted aggressively, hurling insults at them, including the phrase "maderos de merda"—a common Spanish slur against police.

Refusing help and continuing his verbal abuse, the man was arrested on charges of offending their honour and interfering with public officials. At the police station, he escalated the situation further by removing his shoe and throwing it at an officer when asked to take off his shoes and belt for security reasons, as required for detainees.

The Batllia court processed the case via the fast-track procedure the same day. The man received a suspended sentence and was released after sobering up in a cell.
