Thieves Flee Andorra Apartment Break-In After Feeling Discovered, Taking Limited Loot

Police suspect thieves fled an Andorra la Vella apartment break-in after feeling discovered, taking only limited valuables despite extensive ransacking.

The burglary targeted a first-floor flat in a building on Carrer Esteve Dolsa, in the Marginets area accessible via Avinguda Tarragona. Thieves broke a window to gain entry and searched the property thoroughly from top to bottom, leaving it in disarray. Officers believe the intruders—either one person or more—left hurriedly without taking everything available, making off with some jewellery and a watch. No other flats in the 12-unit building were targeted, and most neighbours noticed nothing unusual until police conducted inquiries.

The owners, an elderly couple well-known locally as proprietors of a commercial establishment, discovered the mess on Monday evening. The flat lies directly opposite CASS headquarters. They have not yet filed a formal complaint, and the full extent of stolen items remains unclear.

Two police patrols arrived around 9 p.m. on Monday to confirm the forced entry. Authorities now view the incident as an isolated "furt amb força," with no similar cases detected recently across the country. This contrasts with earlier suggestions of a pattern in apartment break-ins.

Damage inside was significant but initially appeared limited to the search, without deliberate destruction. The merchant community has voiced strong outrage over the intrusion into the couple's home.
