Els Comuns Demands Reliable Mobile Library in Rural Catalonia

Catalan opposition party Els Comuns has tabled a resolution in the Catalan Parliament calling for reliable bibliobús services in the Tuixent-La Vall de la Vansa area, spanning the municipalities of Josa i Tuixent and La Vansa i Fórnols.

The group highlighted disruptions to the mobile library service, which they say have worsened due to an unfilled driver position. This has cut visits from every two weeks to just once a month in some areas, and led to temporary suspensions elsewhere. In Tuixent specifically, the service has stopped entirely, according to local councillor Mario Mata.

MP Txell Teruel pointed out that these issues have left residents without proper access to public reading resources. She described the situation as a territorial injustice that undermines equitable access to cultural services, particularly affecting the elderly, children, and those with mobility challenges.

Els Comuns urged authorities to ensure the service's continuity and regular operation to uphold quality public library access for the local population.
