Escaldes-Engordany parish council has begun interior construction and finishing works this week on more than 1,100 square metres of premises along Avinguda del Fener, aiming to centralise municipal services currently operating from various rented sites across the parish.

The upgraded facility will house traffic services, the citizen attention office, public space occupancy unit, textile and glass workshops, and a multipurpose room. Officials note that owning the space outright will eliminate rental costs and provide more spacious, up-to-date installations better suited to current demands, while streamlining service delivery.

The €1.3 million project is slated to take 18 weeks, enabling traffic services to move in during the second half of summer. In the meantime, from Monday 9 March, traffic permit processing will shift temporarily from council headquarters to the Salita building on Carrer Josep Viladomat until the Fener site opens.

The premises entered public ownership in 2021 through an in-kind construction tax payment, adding significant square footage to the parish's assets. This effort forms part of broader initiatives to modernise public infrastructure, including new urban green spaces around Prat del Roure on Carrer dels Veedors—creating nearly 2,000 square metres of accessible public area—and the recovery of Borda Gabriel on Carrer de l'Obac for future services and connectivity to Avinguda Carlemany. The council's budget also supports investments in mobility improvements, parking, and upgrades to key public spaces like Prat Gran.

Council leaders describe the Fener project as a step toward more efficient, functional, and resident-friendly services.
