Andorra Police Arrest Security Guard and Tourist in Separate Assaults

Andorra police arrested a 50-year-old security guard and a 46-year-old tourist over the weekend for separate assaults, one at an El Tarter nightclub and the other at a Pas de la Casa medical centre.

Late Saturday night, the guard, working for a local firm at the venue, stopped a customer from leaving with a glass bottle, telling him to switch to a plastic cup. The temporary resident, out with friends, ignored the instruction, leading to a confrontation. The guard then pulled out an extendable baton he had bought himself—without company authorization, training, or legal permission for professional use—and struck the man across the body. The victim suffered a bleeding facial cut from a punch, plus marks consistent with the baton; none of the injuries were severe. He sought hospital treatment on his own and obtained a medical report. Officers arrested the resident guard on charges of offences against physical and moral integrity, plus a public safety violation for illegal weapon possession. A properly issued tool used proportionately would have been permitted. He appeared before a judge Sunday afternoon and was freed that evening. The guard showed no injuries, and police continue investigating whether his response to the group was excessive.

Early Saturday morning, Pas de la Casa police located the tourist to notify him that his underage son was receiving care at the health centre for intoxication. On seeing the boy's state, the father punched him in the face, inflicting a wound that required stitches. Officers arrested him on suspicion of offences against the physical and moral integrity of a minor.
