The Fundació Privada Laurus has confirmed that the first phase of works for a new elderly housing project in Sant Julià de Lòria is nearly complete, with the board approving LOCUB, S.A. to handle the second phase once site preparation ends in mid-February.
In a recent patronat meeting, the foundation tracked progress on the initiative, described as vital for the parish and country. The initial stage, which began in early June 2025 and involved excavation, demolition of the existing structure, wall retention, and ground stabilisation, remains on schedule. Most updates indicate completion by mid-February, though one report points to the second half of the month, clearing the way for main construction.
LOCUB will build three residential blocks at the parish's southern entrance, providing 54 serviced apartments of one or two bedrooms, each roughly 50 square metres. The site will also feature a day centre for around 30 users, expanding care resources as the elderly population grows. The layout prioritises resident independence through secure, accessible designs and support services, while fostering community ties.
The project, located at Sant Julià de Lòria's entry point, will enhance urban planning by embedding social facilities into the neighbourhood. It arises from a public-private partnership uniting the Andorran Government, Comú de Sant Julià de Lòria, heirs of Climent Riera i Cusí, heirs of Montserrat Marfany, executors of María Duró, Fundació Reig, Fundació Bomosa, Creu Roja, and an anonymous donor whose gift ensured financial viability.
The foundation now holds full funding of €18 million—€10 million from private non-profit sources and €8 million public, including €5 million from the government and the rest from the comú. Construction should wrap up in January 2028, with apartments and the day centre opening by May.
Comú major Cerni Cairat expressed satisfaction, stating the project advances well and aligns with policies on elderly care and social cohesion. Partners emphasise its role in addressing demographic challenges and supporting balanced parish development.
