GosSOS Extends Andorra Dog Shelter Hours Amid Construction
Pilot program opens CPC until 7pm weekdays to support dog walks during transformer station build, testing viability for permanent expansion.
Key Points
- Pilot extends CPC hours to 7pm Mon-Sat, 4pm Sun until March 15.
- Construction by FEDA relocated dog exercise areas; new ones nearly ready.
- Calls for volunteers to walk dogs morning/afternoon for animal well-being.
- Tests if expansion attracts enough support to cover added staff costs.
The GosSOS association launched a pilot programme on Monday, 16 February 2026, extending hours at Andorra's Centre de Protecció Caní (CPC) until 15 March. The shelter now opens Monday to Saturday from 7am to 7pm and Sundays from 8am to 4pm, welcoming both visitors and volunteers.
The initiative tackles urgent issues from construction of a new transformer station on adjacent land by electricity provider FEDA. Work has required temporary relocation of the dogs' outdoor exercise areas, or *tancats*, where animals get daily time outside their cubicles. FEDA provided swift support for alternative spaces, but the permanent *tancats* remain roughly ten days from completion. GosSOS is appealing for volunteers to assist with morning and afternoon dog walks, ensuring all animals maintain their essential outings for physical and mental well-being.
Beyond the short-term fix, the trial assesses whether afternoon access draws enough volunteers and visitors to justify making it permanent. Such an expansion would demand more professional staff and higher operating costs, so the group aims to base any future changes on solid data rather than assumptions. GosSOS has expressed gratitude for ongoing community backing and invites residents to the centre in coming weeks to walk dogs and spend time with them.
