La Massana council expects to have the final design for the overhaul of Plaça de les Fontetes ready by the end of spring, marking a key step in one of its major 2026 budget projects.
Architect Azahara Jurado has been selected to lead the redesign of the popular public space, which spans 4,000 square metres and aims to transform it into a hub for community interaction and social activities. The contract, awarded for €76,285, gives Jurado an initial two weeks to produce a basic project outline, followed by two months to develop detailed plans for both phases of the works.
The project divides into two stages. The first will focus on the main square itself, covering 2,000 square metres, with construction targeted to begin in 2026. The second phase will address surrounding streets, affecting another 2,000 square metres.
Jurado's design will incorporate shaded areas, play zones for children, green spaces, and pedestrian-friendly layouts for walking and relaxation. It will also ensure open areas remain available for traditional events such as the Christmas market and Andoflora flower show.
The tender process launched in early November and concluded with Jurado's selection. With the council's 2026 budget allocating €700,000 for the renovation, officials anticipate moving quickly to tender the construction works once the plans are complete.
