A 43-year-old man from Erts was injured on Christmas Day after falling around four metres into the Riu Pollós in Arinsal while clearing snow from the parking area of the Hotel Palomar using a quad bike fitted with a plough.

The worker had been manoeuvring snow towards the river when he broke through an open protective barrier, landing with half his body in the water, according to the Massana fire service chief of watch. He reported intense ankle pain and displayed mild hypothermia symptoms from the cold conditions.

Emergency services responded promptly to the scene at Puiol del Piu with a fire truck, an ambulance, the mountain rescue group vehicle, a police unit, and a SUM ambulance. Firefighters stabilised the man on site before transferring him to Hospital Nostra Senyora de Meritxell, where he remains admitted in stable condition with a prognosis of minor injuries, pending further tests, hospital sources said.
