Nearly one in ten Andorran households faces energy poverty, with 11.9% of respondents in the latest Observatori survey reporting they cannot keep their homes adequately warm during cold weather.

The findings come from the second-semester Observatori, which polled around 800 people. Of the 794 respondents to the key question, 94 admitted struggling to heat their homes when temperatures drop. This marks a slight improvement from the first semester of 2024, when the figure stood at 14%.

Disparities appear across demographics. Andorran nationals reported the issue at 9.3%, compared to 13.2% among Portuguese residents, 13.7% for Spaniards, and 14.1% for other nationalities.

Education levels strongly correlate with vulnerability. Among those with only primary education, nearly 27% said they could not properly heat their homes. The rate fell with higher qualifications, reaching 6.4% for university degree holders.

Employment status revealed stark divides. Workers in industry, construction, agriculture, and commerce faced the problem at 20.6%, while domestic staff reported 16.7%. The highest rate—35.9%—affected the unemployed and those on sick leave.

The survey underscores energy poverty as a persistent challenge in Andorra, particularly for lower-skilled and jobless residents, despite the recent modest decline.
