Illegal Dormitories Uncovered in La Seu d'Urgell Barbershops

A multi-agency operation on Wednesday morning in La Seu d'Urgell uncovered illegal dormitories in three of six inspected barbershops, prompting immediate inspection reports from the Labour Inspectorate.

The joint effort involved the Mossos d'Esquadra, local police, Spain's National Police Corps, and labour inspectors. Teams checked opening licences, work permits, and other administrative requirements, while confirming compliance with labour, urban planning, and safety standards. Authorities identified 12 people connected to the businesses and notified them of the violations. National Police officers from the foreign affairs department also summoned two individuals to the La Seu station for documentation checks.

The makeshift sleeping areas were deemed illegal because the commercial premises lack authorization for residential use. Potential fines for such breaches range from €3,000 to €30,000, depending on the municipality and severity, with police able to order immediate evacuation until conditions are legalized.

No arrests occurred during the operation. Officials have not released further information on labour violations, nationalities of those involved, or subsequent enforcement actions. The inspections highlight ongoing efforts to address unauthorized living conditions and irregular employment in the area.
