  • Salary increase: gross monthly pay from 1,600 to 1,800 euros for retention.
  • Staff drop from 29 to 20 agents due to retirements and unfilled hires; target 25-29.
  • New perks: 21-euro night allowance, 100-euro weekly senior pay, monthly schedules.
  • 2026 budget: 24M euros, personnel up 7.11%; approved loan guarantee and elderly menu hike.

Sant Julià de Lòria's local council approved salary increases for traffic auxiliary agents on 30 December 2025, lifting their gross monthly pay to 1,800 euros from 1,600 euros. The changes aim to retain staff amid competition from private firms and other administrations, while addressing repeated early retirements that have reduced the team from 29 agents a decade ago to 20 today.

Cònsol Major Cerni Cairat attributed the shortages to a lack of planning for prejubilations, noting that recent recruitment drives have gone largely unfilled. "The parish has grown, but agent numbers have stagnated," he said, adding that the reforms modernise the department, update pay scales and "allow us to rebuild with the hands we need." The council plans three new hires and to consolidate one trainee this year, ahead of two retirements in 2026, with a gradual push toward 25-29 staff.

Councillor for Circulation Cristian Mayoralas said understaffing has affected daily operations in the expanding parish, making the updates essential for reliable service. New regulations include shift schedules released by the 15th of each month, a 21-euro gross nightly extension allowance for nine-hour shifts, and 100-euro weekly availability pay for senior roles. Shifts now prioritise busy areas and peak hours, factoring in departures. A civic inspector position will monitor traffic rules, public safety and cleanliness.

Entry rules align with the 2023 Agents Law, removing the age cap and requiring only a driving licence and B1 Catalan level to apply, with B2 needed on appointment.

Updated annual gross salaries are: trainees from 20,506 to 23,121 euros; first-class agents from 24,280 to 26,714 euros; corporals from 26,772 to 28,600 euros. Trainee supplements rise from 32.20 to 58.01 euros monthly.

The meeting also passed the 2026 budget of 24,086,164.28 euros, with personnel expenses up 7.11% to over seven million euros from inflation, hires and restructuring. Opposition urged spending restraint as construction slows and revenues dip. Other approvals covered a 2.17 million euro, 10-year loan guarantee for Camprabassa to manage Naturland's short-term debt, and a menu price rise at Cullera de Lòria elderly service from 6.80 to 7.80 euros daily (35 euros weekly) to support quality upgrades including a specialised cook and dietitian.
