Three Men Arrested in Andorra Assault Cases, Irish Tourist Jailed

Police in Andorra have arrested three men over the weekend in separate assault cases, with the Irish tourist who punched a 72-year-old bar owner in Pas de la Casa now remanded in custody pending assessment of the victim's injuries.

The 35-year-old Irish tourist, who was apparently heavily intoxicated, entered a bar on Avinguda d'Encamp around 10:15pm Sunday night demanding more alcohol as the owner prepared to close amid tensions with remaining customers. After refusing repeated requests to leave, he punched the owner in the face, knocking him off balance. The 72-year-old fell awkwardly, hitting his head on the floor and suffering a head injury whose severity remains under evaluation. Emergency services treated him on site before transferring him to the hospital in Escaldes-Engordany, where he remains admitted for observation. Officers detained the tourist shortly after for an offence against physical and moral integrity. He spent the night in police custody and appeared before the duty batllia on Monday. The court ordered his provisional imprisonment at La Comella prison, citing concerns over the victim's condition and the risk of the non-resident suspect fleeing if complications arose.

In a domestic violence incident late Saturday night, a 45-year-old man in Andorra la Vella slapped his partner during a dispute at their home. Police found evidence of the assault and arrested him for an offence against physical and moral integrity in the context of gender-based violence. He faced a judge Sunday via fast-track proceedings, received a conviction, and was released with a restraining order in place.

Earlier Sunday, authorities in Pas de la Casa arrested a 21-year-old man for assaulting another individual during a nightclub altercation, inflicting a wound that required medical treatment. He faces charges of an offence against physical and moral integrity.
