Andorra Hosts First UNODC Delegation to Boost Anti-Drug and Crime Cooperation

Andorra welcomed a delegation from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on Thursday, the principality's first such encounter, aimed at building mutual understanding and identifying specific opportunities for political and technical cooperation.

The visitors held discussions with officials from major government areas, including interior affairs, police, health, cybersecurity, anti-doping efforts, and foreign relations. Key topics included strategies for addressing drug-related issues—covering oversight of medical substances and tracking illicit consumption—along with efforts to counter transnational organized crime, corruption, and cyber threats.

This engagement fits into a broader UNODC initiative to broaden alliances with nations that have not previously established structured ties. The organization highlighted Andorra's potential as a partner, citing its dedication to multilateral approaches and ongoing work with other UN entities such as UNESCO.

The delegation comprised Fedor Klimchuk, deputy director general of the Policy Analysis and Public Affairs Division and head of the Public Affairs and Policy Support Branch, and Igor Kondratyev, head of external relations in the Co-financing and Partnerships Section.

The meetings position Andorra to enhance its policies on security, health, and justice, while opening access to targeted expertise, data resources, and proven global strategies.
