Andorra Approves 94% of 5,057 Family Reunification Requests Since 2022

The Andorran government has approved 5,057 family reunification requests out of 5,364 submitted from 2022 through May 2026, according to data from Interior and Justice Minister Ester Molné.

Responding to parliamentary questions from Social Democratic Group leader Susanna Vela in April, Molné detailed an upward trend in approvals: 1,063 in 2022, 1,167 in 2023, 1,203 in 2024, and a high of 1,273 in 2025. Applications rose similarly, from 1,104 in 2022 to 1,229 in 2023, 1,295 in 2024, and 1,383 in 2025. In 2026 so far, 353 requests have been processed, with 351 approved.

Most approvals cover families of three or four members. In 2025, these included 419 for three-member households and 346 for four-member ones, alongside 378 for couples. Families of five or more members remain less common.

Spanish nationals lead by nationality, with 122 approvals in 2026 to date, followed by French citizens at 64, Andorrans at 27, Argentines at 25, Colombians at 23, and Portuguese at 4. For 2025 overall, Spaniards received 419 approvals, French 137, Colombians 119, and Andorrans 95, with notable demand from Argentines, Peruvians, and Portuguese as well.

Households employing domestic staff account for the largest share, with 195 approvals in 2026 following 593 in 2025, 562 in 2024, 508 in 2023, and 453 in 2022. Construction ranked second in 2026 with 29 approvals, ahead of hospitality at 25, retail at 12, other business activities at 9, and health or veterinary services at 7. In 2025, construction saw 143 approvals and hospitality 115, while business owners secured 464 permits and salaried roles like shop assistants, waiters, cooks, masons, and cleaners were prominent.

The data reflect a slight slowdown in growth due to stricter economic requirements this legislative term, despite a 5.8% rise in 2025 applications. South American demand, including from Peruvians, Argentines, and Colombians, has grown. Some critics argue the tougher criteria clash with Article 19 of the European Social Charter, which urges facilitation of family reunification for migrant workers. Officials say the figures will help evaluate the policy's economic and social effects.
