Andorra's Foreign Minister Addresses Feminist Foreign Policy Conference in Madrid

Andorra's Foreign Affairs Minister Imma Tor spoke at the closing session of the V Ministerial Conference on Feminist Foreign Policy in Madrid, organised by the Spanish government under the theme "Building Peace and Democracy".

The gathering convened foreign ministers, senior officials from international organisations, civil society representatives, and participants from the Global South. Its goals included bolstering global cooperation, advancing more inclusive foreign policies, and forging fresh commitments on peace, democracy, human rights, and gender equality.

Tor drew attention to the prevailing global landscape of polarisation, ongoing conflicts, threats to human rights, and eroding multilateralism. She called for safeguarding and expanding forums for international dialogue, cooperation, and coordination.

While Andorra maintains no official feminist foreign policy, Tor argued that gender equality and women's substantive involvement in decision-making are vital for fostering just, inclusive, and resilient societies. She cited Andorra's recent strides in equality measures and efforts to combat violence against women, framing equality as a tool to strengthen peace, democracy, and human rights.

This was Tor's debut at the forum, where she accepted an invitation from her Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Albares. The pair held talks on the sidelines, as did Tor with Colombia's Foreign Minister, Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio, reviewing encouraging progress on an origin-country recruitment agreement.
