Andorra's PS Demands Fixes for Immigration Dept Delays After Two Years

The Social Democratic Party (PS) has submitted a new series of written questions to Andorra's General Council, calling on the government to address persistent shortcomings at the Immigration Department that are hindering workers, citizens and businesses.

Pere Baró, deputy leader of the PS parliamentary group, cited ongoing complaints about long waiting times, the need for multiple in-person visits to complete a single procedure, and a lack of digital tools to simplify processes. These issues, he argued, are creating significant hurdles for users and the country's business community.

The PS pointed out that the group first raised concerns about the department's deficiencies in May 2024. "Two years later, complaints keep coming in, and evidence suggests the situation has not improved—and may even have worsened," the party stated.

Baró's questions require the government to evaluate the department's current performance and supply data on average waiting times, the number of visits needed per case, and the total user complaints received. They also probe whether human resources, equipment, office hours and other provisions are adequate for efficient operations, and what steps are planned to strengthen them.

Further inquiries focus on progress toward digitalising services, including schedules for online document submissions to reduce physical visits and streamline administration. The PS demanded prompt action to cut delays and repeat appearances, delivering a public service that is modern and responsive to contemporary demands.

"Two years ago, we warned about this problem. Far from being resolved, we continue receiving reports from workers and business owners indicating it remains highly concerning. The government cannot normalise an essential service running this way," Baró said.
