Andorra's head of government, Xavier Espot, met with Ireland's ambassador to Andorra, Brian Glynn, this morning to discuss priorities for Ireland's EU Council presidency and ways to deepen economic and financial ties between the two territories.
During the meeting, Espot thanked Glynn for Ireland's support in the signing process of the EU association agreement with Andorra and San Marino, which received approval from the bloc's 27 member states. The leaders also reviewed Ireland's presidency agenda, which began on 1 July under the motto "Strength with unity". Glynn had presented these priorities at a separate event in Andorra the previous day, describing the slogan as particularly apt amid current global challenges.
Espot highlighted the strong cooperation between the countries over the past 30 years and expressed Andorra's desire to expand economic and financial collaboration with Ireland.
Yesterday's presentation drew attendees including Demòcrates party councillors, other ambassadors, Foreign Affairs Minister Imma Tor, and Secretary of State for European Affairs Landry Riba.
The EU approval marks a key step in closer relations between the bloc and the two microstates, though details on the agreement's rollout remain pending.
