The Andorran government has approved a €195,283 subsidy to fund salaries for Catholic religion teachers across the country's schools, marking an increase from the €155,038 provided for 2025.
The Council of Ministers agreed to the payment on 29 July, with details published in Wednesday's Official Bulletin of the Principality of Andorra (BOPA). Administered by the Ministry of Institutional Relations, Education and Universities, the allocation supports the Archpriest of the Andorran Valleys for the 2026 academic year.
Schools must offer Catholic religion classes, which remain optional for pupils. Students can choose this subject or the "Growing with Values" alternative in both primary and secondary levels.
At confessional schools—Janer, Sagrada Família in Escaldes-Engordany, and Sant Ermengol—religion is a compulsory part of the curriculum. Spanish education centres in Andorra must also provide the classes as an elective option.
