Zelensky Thanks Andorran Leader Espot for Ukraine Independence Day Solidarity

Ukrainian President Volodímir Zelensky has publicly thanked Andorran Head of Government Xavier Espot for a letter expressing solidarity with Ukraine on the occasion of its 35th Independence Day anniversary.

In the message, sent on 19 August ahead of celebrations in Kyiv on 24 August, Espot apologised for being unable to attend due to prior commitments. He wrote that he deeply regretted not joining the commemoration, which symbolises Ukraine's resolve to defend its freedom, sovereignty and right to shape its own future.

Espot conveyed, on behalf of himself and the Andorran government, sincere solidarity and firm support for the Ukrainian people. He reaffirmed Andorra's commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter, respect for state sovereignty and territorial integrity, and backing for efforts to secure a just and lasting peace grounded in international law.

Zelensky shared the exchange on his X account on 25 August, stating his "sincere gratitude" for Espot's "heartfelt message" and Andorra's "steadfast solidarity". He praised the Principat's principled stance on international law and the joint pursuit of restoring lasting peace.

The gesture highlights Andorra's continued backing for Ukraine during its ongoing conflict, aligning with the nation's emphasis on global stability and legal norms.
