Ordino Mourns Former General Councillor Emili Prats Grau, Dead at 80

Ordino is mourning the death of former General Councillor Emili Prats Grau, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 80 while receiving medical treatment in Barcelona. Born on 1 June 1946, Prats had been battling an illness for some time.

His political career in Ordino spanned decades, beginning at the local level as major conseller of the parish council in 1976 and 1977. He continued serving as a communal councillor in several terms: 1978-1979, 1982-1983, and 1988-1991. Prats later gained national prominence as a General Councillor for Ordino during two consecutive legislatures—from 2001 to 2005 under Marc Forné, and 2005 to 2009 under Albert Pintat—running on the Partit Liberal d’Andorra ticket led by Olga Adellach. In his second term, he served on the Foreign Policy legislative committee and as part of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie.

Professionally, Prats worked as a farmer, often balancing this role with his political duties, alongside earlier experience as a customs officer and family connections to hospitality. He remained deeply rooted in Ordino throughout his life.

Arrangements for repatriation from Spain and any farewell events are still pending, with sources suggesting no wake or funeral before next week. The Consell General has offered its condolences to Prats's family and colleagues.
