Andorran Virtus Party Proposes More Police and Expanded Traffic Agent Powers for Public Safety

The Andorran Virtus party has called for bolstering police resources and intensifying prevention efforts to tackle rising security and coexistence challenges in the country.

In a statement, Virtus highlighted Andorra's long-standing reputation for safety as a key asset, but warned of recent incidents including assaults, thefts, and instances of abuse that demand stronger policies. The party prioritizes acting before crimes or disputes escalate, by pinpointing risks and addressing their root causes.

Central to its plan is "proximity policing," where officers build regular ties with residents, businesses, schools, associations, and other community players to spot issues like neighbor conflicts, uncivil behavior, youth problems, and vulnerability cases early. To make this feasible, Virtus proposes hiring more police for the national force and granting municipal traffic agents wider authority to intervene in such situations.

The party also urges expanded educational initiatives in schools and institutes to combat bullying, youth violence, peer disputes, and online dangers. These programs would raise awareness of digital threats, including social media risks, online scams, identity theft, and the spread of non-consensual content, amid growing cybersecurity concerns.

Virtus backs technological tools such as video surveillance, alert systems, and data analysis to identify potential trouble spots, insisting these must include robust privacy protections and respect for individual rights.

Beyond policing, the party seeks tighter collaboration among police, emergency responders, schools, and social services to detect vulnerabilities tied to social, family, educational, or health factors. It also pushes for enhanced cross-border partnerships with Spain and France to improve information exchange on transnational crime.
