Andorran Govern approves bill for temporary fuel price cuts from October to December

The Govern approved a bill on Monday 19 October introducing temporary fuel price cuts running from October through December, confirming reductions that Altaveu had reported in advance.

Diesel will fall by 15 cents per litre in October and November, before easing to eight cents in December. Petrol will be cut by 20 cents per litre across the first two months and by 13 cents in December.

The legislation applies retroactively from 1 October and extends to the end of the year. It provides for partial refunds of the special hydrocarbons tax on fuel sold during that period — a mechanism that, alongside the efforts of private operators, is designed to pass the reductions through to pump prices.

According to the Executive, the reductions were made possible by an agreement with the fuel importing and distributing sector. The measure builds on actions taken over the previous three months to cushion the effect of more expensive hydrocarbons on household purchasing power and to keep Andorra competitive with neighbouring countries.

The Govern said the measures are temporary and that it will continue monitoring fuel price developments, adopting further measures if needed to protect competitiveness and household finances in the Principality.
