GPS Tables Motion to Reject Andorra's 2027 Budget Over Lack of Vision

Social Democratic group (GPS) in Andorra has proposed fully rejecting the 2027 budget from the DA government. They argue it ignores social and economic challenges, prioritises status quo over reforms, and fails to direct funds toward citizen needs like housing and healthcare.

Key Points

  • GPS group seeks total rejection of DA government's 2027 budget proposal.
  • Criticizes lack of strategic vision, prudent resource management, and focus on priorities.
  • Demands emphasis on housing, healthcare, social protection, and public services.
  • Calls for transparency, oversight, and measurable social benefits in spending.

The Social Democratic group (PS), also known as GPS, has filed a motion for the total rejection of the Democrats for Andorra (DA) government's proposed 2027 budget, citing its lack of strategic vision and prudent management of public resources.

Presenting the full amendment in parliament, the group argued that the budget fails to tackle Andorra's social and economic challenges or outline essential priorities for the coming years. Lawmakers said the proposal relies on continuity rather than using the current influx of public funds to enhance quality of life, bolster public services and advance a more balanced national model.

The social democrats emphasised that every public euro should support policies addressing citizens' genuine needs and producing measurable social benefits. They insisted on budgeting grounded in responsibility, transparency and rigour, balancing short-term requirements with longer-term obligations. The positive economic environment, they noted, provides an opening to solidify public finances and maintain flexibility for future governments.

Placing people at the core of public policy, the group highlighted priorities such as housing access, service quality, healthcare and social protection. Any spending increases, they said, require clear objectives, results assessments and proof of contributions to public welfare.

GPS also called for stronger transparency and oversight of public spending, extending to parapublic entities and state companies, to ensure promised investments materialise into real projects.

Through this total amendment, the social democrats seek to broaden the budget discussion beyond mere totals, focusing instead on Andorra's preferred national model and the government's fundamental priorities. They push for a people-focused budget with defined social aims, strict financial controls and forward-thinking strategies that avoid limiting subsequent parliaments.
