Canillo Council Reviews Progress on El Forn, Prats, and Meritxell Resident Requests

Parish officials inspected safety, mobility, and service improvements in three Andorran villages, noting many resident requests resolved while addressing further needs like parking and paths. Cònsol Major praises process for direct engagement.

Key Points

  • Completed El Forn works: pothole inspections, bus rerouting, tree clearing, parking barriers.
  • Prats upgrades: new lighting, speed camera repairs, waste signage, playground ramp rebuilt.
  • Meritxell actions: parking expansion prep, CG-2 crossing referral, sanctuary ramp anti-slip.
  • Cònsol Major Alcobé stresses direct meetings for resolving delays and ongoing projects.

Canillo parish council has reviewed progress on residents' requests in El Forn, Prats, and Meritxell after meetings that began today with El Forn and Prats, culminating in a visit to Meritxell. Officials assessed completed improvements in safety, mobility, lighting, maintenance, and services, while identifying further needs.

In El Forn, completed works include the annual inspection of Palanqueta potholes, rerouting the Uclic bus to access upper homes, clearing dead trees from public land, adding a "no through road" sign at the end of Forn road, and installing a rear barrier to ease vehicle parking. The waste collection truck's uphill stop was shifted to avoid hazards.

Prats saw two new lighting points installed behind Muntada parking, repairs to the educational speed camera, and interior village lighting upgrades. The waste truck operator was asked to slow down through the village. Roundabout signage was reinforced, motorhome access to parking restricted, riverbank branches largely cleared, old weirs removed, and new signs prepared to urge users to remove their waste. Peak-season Uclic services added a second vehicle, playground graffiti was cleaned, and the ramp from the information point to the playground rebuilt. The waste truck speed reduction request was forwarded to the service provider.

Meritxell actions include negotiating and preparing land for lower parking expansion, referring a safe CG-2 crossing solution to the government's Mobility department, plaza upgrades, anti-slip treatment on the sanctuary ramp, and Toll Bullidor sign installation.

Cònsol Major Jordi Alcobé highlighted the meetings' value, saying they allow direct insight into village needs and demand follow-up. He noted that many requests from El Forn, Prats, and Meritxell have been resolved or received concrete responses, adding that explaining delays and pursuing pending actions remains key to ongoing resident contact.

Ongoing projects in El Forn cover Arenya parking signage improvements, gradual replacement of metal crash barriers with wooden ones, and path repairs to Riba Escortxada in coordination with Ensisa. The cow path widening between El Tarter and El Forn for better mountain bike use is under study, with paths already adapted this season and designated routes recommended.

Prats efforts include shifting the Muntada pedestrian crossing after current works, creating a safe walking route from Sella buildings to waste containers, new bulky waste collection signage, and residue pickup schedule boards.

Meritxell studies address secure pedestrian access to the village core in talks with landowners, lighting issues, mobility and service actions, riverbank path repairs, and cemetery wall slab fixes awaiting Cultural Heritage approval.
